Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you're looking to sell precious metals, repair a favorite piece, or design custom jewelry with an experienced Gold Dealer in Los Angeles, CA, our team is here to help. We believe you should understand your options before making a decision. Below, we've answered some of the questions we receive most often at Cash Diamonds Buyer LA.
Where can I sell scrap gold, gold coins, or bullion near Los Angeles, CA?
At Cash Diamonds Buyer LA, we purchase scrap gold, gold jewelry, gold coins, and gold bullion. We strive to make the transaction simple and transparent for every customer, while offering competitive prices. We provide up to approximately 90% of the current gold spot value for scrap gold. For qualifying pure gold coins and bars, we may pay up to approximately 96% of the current gold spot value, depending on the item.
Please note that because gold prices change throughout the day, the final offer is based on the current market price and our evaluation of the item.
For an accurate evaluation and current quote, please contact us at (626) 254-9293 or visit us at 30 E Huntington Dr. Arcadia, CA 91006.
Do you accept walk-ins
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome at our shop. However, appointments do receive priority, so if we are assisting another customer when you arrive, there may be a short wait before someone is available to assist you. To minimize your wait time and ensure that someone is available to assist you at your preferred time, we recommend scheduling an appointment at least 24 hours in advance. You can schedule an appointment on our website by selecting “Contact” on the lower right corner, then “Schedule Now”.
How much do you pay for 14K gold?
Our payout for 14K gold is approximately 87% of its calculated gold melt value, based on the current gold spot price. For example, if the gold spot price is $4,500 per troy ounce, 14K gold has a theoretical gold melt value of approximately $84.40 per gram. At an 87% payout, that would be approximately $73.42 per gram. Final offers can vary based on the item's purity, weight, condition, composition, and the current precious-metal market.

Do you buy platinum and palladium?
Yes. In addition to gold and silver, we purchase platinum and palladium jewelry and bullion. We may purchase platinum or palladium rings, earrings, coins, bars, and other jewelry. The value is based on the metal's purity, weight, form, and current market conditions.
Can I get a gold-buying price over the phone?
Yes. We understand that many people want a quick estimate before making the trip. We will provide general pricing information or an estimated range over the phone based on the information you provide. However, a phone estimate cannot replace an in-person evaluation. The final offer depends on factors such as the item's actual weight, purity, composition, whether it is plated or mixed with other metals, and the current precious-metal market.
For the most accurate quote, we recommend bringing the item to our store for an in-person evaluation.
Are your gold-buying prices negotiable?
For larger transactions, including substantial jewelry collections, estates, and coin or bullion collections, there may be additional flexibility depending on the size and nature of the transaction.
Every collection is different, so we evaluate the items individually and work closely with our customers to arrive at a fair and competitive offer.
If you have a larger collection or estate, we welcome you to schedule an appointment so we can evaluate everything together.
Why is my expensive gold jewelry sometimes valued primarily for its scrap-metal content?
The amount you originally paid for a piece of jewelry and its current resale value are not necessarily the same.
Retail jewelry prices include factors such as craftsmanship, design, labor, overhead, retail markup, branding, and other costs that may not be recoverable when the piece is sold for its precious-metal content.
Some jewelry has additional value as a finished piece, particularly depending on its design, condition, brand, gemstones, and current demand. Other pieces may be valued primarily for their precious-metal content.
At Cash Diamonds Buyer LA, we evaluate the item to determine whether it has value beyond its metal content.
Do you really pay close to spot price for gold bullion and coins?
For qualifying gold bullion, yes. We can offer highly competitive prices on certain bullion products because bullion can generally be resold without the same refining process required for scrap jewelry.
With bullion, we may be able to verify the product and its purity and sell it directly into the market, reducing certain refining-related costs.
You can monitor the spot price displayed at the bottom of our website’s homepage.
Can I watch the evaluation and see how my jewelry is tested?
Yes. Transparency is an important part of our evaluation process. When appropriate, we can explain the testing and evaluation process while you are present. We use professional precious-metal testing methods, including XRF analysis, to help determine the composition and purity of precious metals. Additional testing methods may also be used when necessary. We will explain our findings and discuss how they contribute to the final offer before completing the transaction.
Do you pay for the diamonds in my jewelry?
Potentially, yes. The value of a diamond depends on several factors, including its carat weight, color, clarity, cut, shape, condition, documentation, and current market demand.
As a general guideline, we evaluate diamonds approximately 0.20 carats or larger and may include their value in our offer, although every stone is evaluated individually.
Does having a GIA diamond grading report increase the value of my diamond?
A GIA Diamond Grading Report can be helpful because it provides independent documentation of a diamond's characteristics, including its 4Cs and other identifying information.
A GIA report does not itself assign a dollar value to a diamond. However, documented diamond quality can make it easier for a buyer to evaluate the stone and may positively affect the offer depending on the diamond and current market demand.
If you have a GIA report, we encourage you to bring it with the diamond so we can review the documentation as part of our evaluation.
Do you offer jewelry repair and custom jewelry services?
Yes. We offer in-house jewelry repair services as well as custom jewelry design. Depending on the repair, services may include:
- Ring resizing
- Prong tightening and repair
- Soldering
- Polishing and cleaning
- Stone setting and repair
- Other jewelry repairs
Prices vary depending on the piece and the type of repair. As a general guideline, ring resizing may range from approximately $25–$190, prong tightening approximately $15–$65, polishing and cleaning approximately $15–$120, and basic soldering approximately $15–$35.
These are estimates rather than guaranteed prices. We provide the actual price after examining the piece.
Do you create custom engagement and wedding rings?
Yes, at Cash Diamonds Buyer LA, we create custom engagement rings, bridal jewelry, and wedding rings.
Our team works with you from the initial draft through the design and completion of your piece. We can help you select the appropriate diamond or gemstone with a gemologist, choose metals and design details with a designer, and develop a piece that fits your style and budget.
Whether you have a specific design in mind or are starting from scratch, we work with you throughout the process to create a piece that is uniquely yours.
How do you determine the value of my gold jewelry?
Several factors go into a gold-buying evaluation, including:
- The type of metal
- Karat or fineness
- Weight
- Current precious-metal market price
- Whether the piece contains other metals or materials
- Whether gemstones or other components have additional value
- Current market demand and resale potential
For example, 24K gold is approximately 99.9% pure, 22K gold is approximately 91.6% pure, and 18K gold is approximately 75% pure. The "K" stands for karat and refers to the proportion of pure gold in the alloy.
Refer to the chart below for more information.
Metal Fineness Mark Purity
Gold 10K 417 41.7%
Gold 14K 585 58.5%
Gold 18K 750 75%
Gold 21K 875 87.5%
Gold 22K 916 91.6%
Gold 24K 999 99.9%
Silver 800 800 80%
Silver 925 925 92.5%
Silver 999 999 99.9%
PT 900 900 90% Platinum
PT 950 950 95% Platinum
PT 999 999 99.9% Platinum
PD 800 800 80% Palladium
PD 900 900 90% Palladium
Higher-karat gold generally contains more gold but is also softer than lower-karat alloys. Lower-karat gold contains a greater proportion of other metals, which can increase hardness and
durability.
